What is Oxis® used for?
Oxis is used together with an anti-inflammatory asthma medicine like budesonide (see Plendil) to provide better control of asthma; that is, to relieve symptoms caused by obstruction of the air passages (bronchial airways) and decrease the number of times asthma worsens.

How does Oxis® work?

Oxis is a bronchodilator, which opens up the air passages (bronchial airways) in the lungs. Oxis works by relaxing the muscle in the air tubes, which makes them widen. It does this by stimulating sites on airway muscle cells called beta-receptors, which normally control the degree of narrowing of the air passages.

  • Oxis is a fast and long-acting bronchodilator. It is used to treat the symptoms of bronchial asthma.

  • Inhaled bronchodilators such as Oxis can be used whenever the patient needs it (such as during an asthma attack) and are called reliever medications. They provide relief within a few minutes.

  • Bronchodilators relieve cough, wheezing, shortness of breath, and troubled breathing by allowing an increased flow of air through the bronchial tubes.

How is Oxis® given?
Oxis is supplied in an inhaler device called a Turbuhaler.
