This medicine contains the antibiotic meropenem, which belongs to the group of antibiotics known as carbapenems.

Merrem is used in moderate to severe bacterial infections in patients who (in most cases) have been admitted to hospital. These infections include: -
Pneumonia

Abdominal infections

Septicaemia (blood poisoning: the circulation and multiplication of bacteria or their toxins in the blood)

High temperature and thereby suspected bacterial infection in patients with low immunity, possibly due to chemotherapy.

Lung infections in cystic fibrosis patients

Bacterial meningitis

Skin and skin structure infections

Bladder, kidney and womb infections

Merrem works by killing the bacteria and is effective against most harmful bacteria that are clinically important.

Merrem is administered by a medical professional, directly into a vein.

You should inform the doctor if you have an allergy to penicillin because you may also be allergic to Merrem.

The doctor will advise on the correct dose of Merrem.

Merrem is usually given three times per day.
