What is Bamyl® used for?
Bamyl is used to treat angina pectoris (chest pain caused by too little oxygen reaching the heart muscle) and silent ischaemia, another form of angina. It is also used for the prophylaxis (prevention) of cardiovascular complications during and after myocardial infarction (heart attack) and for prophylaxis of ischaemic cerebrovascular diseases such as stroke, transitory ischaemic attack (TIA) and reversible ischaemic neurologic deficit (RIND). It is also useful in patients who have undergone coronary artery bypass graft operation (CABG) or percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PCTA).

How does Bamyl® work?
  • Bamyl prevents the aggregation of platelets, which are blood cells that are involved in making blood clot. Platelets release a chemical called thromboxane which is a member of a larger family of chemicals called prostaglandins and which makes platelets stick together. Bamyl blocks the making of thromboxane and, consequently, reduces the tendency for blood to clot.

  • Bamyl can help reduce the risk of recurrent heart attack and stroke by reducing the tendency of platelets to clot and allowing blood to flow more freely through the arteries that supply blood to the heart and brain.

How is Bamyl® given?
Bamyl is supplied as tablets.

It is very important that you take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you, even if you do not feel ill. This is because heart and blood pressure problems, if not treated, can get progressively worse.
