Symptoms

Symptoms will vary from individual to individual depending on which part of the digestive system is affected. Symptoms include:

  • Abdominal pain or cramps
  • Bloating
  • Diarrhoea (with or without blood)
  • Anal pain or leakage
  • Rectal abscess (damage to the lining of the rectum and underlying tissue) 
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Fever
  • Loss of appetite
  • Weight loss
  • Fatigue 
  • Floating stools
  • Skin lesions, particularly in the abdomen (lower stomach) area
  • Fissures – This is where parts of the diseased digestive system fuse (or join with) other parts of the body, eg the vagina, skin surface or to other parts of the bowel.
