Course

Asthma can occur at any age but it usually starts in childhood. The symptoms change over time. Every person with asthma has good periods as well as bad ones. Many people think their asthma is under control, when in fact it is unnecessarily limiting their life.

There is no known cure for asthma; however, there are several very effective medicines that can control the symptoms of asthma and prevent periods of greater severity.

Many children have their symptoms disappear as they grow older and some people are only affected at certain times of the year, such as when the pollen count is high.

Most sufferers learn to live with and manage their asthma; however, if it remains uncontrolled, it may become disabling for some and it may even sometimes be life-threatening.
