Reflux esophagitis is an inflammation (irritation and swelling) of the lining of the esophagus (the tube that carries food from the mouth to the stomach). 

  • In Western countries about 20% (1in every 5) of adults suffer from heartburn once a week. Up to half of these will also suffer from reflux esophagitis.
