Breast Cancer treatment guidelines

Most physicians have established practices for the detection and treatment of breast cancer.

However, research into new and improved methods for breast cancer treatment is taking place all the time and it is necessary for physicians to be made of aware of breakthroughs in methods of treatment, to be able to offer patients the best possible options for their condition.

Results from individual clinical trials on breast cancer can sometimes give conflicting messages about the benefits of one treatment approach over another, and to help physicians make the best decisions, Treatment Guidelines are issued, following reports from important Medical Conferences and Congresses throughout the world.

These Guidelines are updated regularly and play an important part in the fight against breast cancer.

Very recently, an important update to the Treatment Guidelines for physicians involved in the treatment of early breast cancer was issued following a major Breast Cancer Congress held in St. Gallen, Switzerland in March 2003.

The consensus of opinion in this update to the International Guidelines strengthens recommendations on the different treatment options that are available, including the important role of hormonal or ‘endocrine’ therapies in the management of women with hormone-sensitive breast cancer.
